A microgrid is a group of interconnected loads and distributed energy resources within clearly defined electrical boundaries that acts as a single controllable entity with respect to the grid. If desired, a microgrid can connect and disconnect from the grid to enable it to operate in both grid connected or island-mode.
We work very close with VPS-Virtual Power Solutions, one of our sister companies, that has developed a technology platform for the integration of renewable assets as other sources of power, and also deploy it in Buildings or Homes to bring an EMS (Energy Management System) to the end user providing large energy savings and shifting energy loads to enable the aggregation into VPP-Virtual Power Plants (http://www.vps.energy/#!business-areas/c1182) and (http://www.vps.energy/#!kiplo/c141i).
As a Company we want to continue to develop more this sector of activity that is part of our vision, as it will help to integrate more Renewable Energy into our Projects, and will create a Team that will benefit from the usage of all technologies that are constantly being developed and/or being advanced from new research.
It will also help the development and deployment of 'Community Energy Management' Projects that we are currently deploying. We will very soon have a ‘Study Case’ to demonstrate the possibility to manage both demand and offer of energy in a balanced environment and bringing to the end user (public) tremendous advantages not only in economic pricing but also helping to lower the carbon footprint which is one of our main objectives when looking at implementing our Projects.
Battery storage solutions allow you to store excess electricity generated by your solar PV , Wind Farm or any other power generation asset system throughout the day in order to make use of it during the evenings or during periods of low generation. This effectively bridges the gap between peak generation and peak demand that is common in the case of most domestic solar PV installations, enabling you to maximise the savings you make on your utility bills whilst continuing to benefit from the feed-in tariff scheme.
In the last few years we have seen a huge advance in this technology, and the coming of ‘domestic storage’ to be used at peak times, and starting to be part of an integrated offer to the domestic PV Solar panels installations, that carry out the option of a Battery to store when the possibility is there. Resero Power is looking at Partnerships with what is referred as 'Grid Storage Capacity’ that are used to balance the grid at peak times.
We are also using these as an integration to our Micro Grid Projects with Partners that have the technology for its deployment and are part of our integration philosophy.
Also at the level of Community Energy Management Projects, not only the above model is used, but we are partnering with small batteries for the domestic usage, as described above.
Such a scheme is currently undergoing in the execution of a project that has both Grid Capacity and Domestic capacity Models in usage, giving Resero Power a unique know how and experience in the future when dealing with the 'Smart City' projects, either as a main contractor or being part of a JV with other service providers.
This is one of the most challenging but effective ways of tackling the ‘spikes of the grid’, which every Country is or will be facing due to the high demand and increase of energy consumption, bringing more and more IoT into play.
LNG to Power
In this sector we work very close with Resero Gas, our sister company, that develops LNG to Power Projects, from a concept of SPUG (Small Power Unit Generation) that benefit from a LNG FSU (Floating Storage Unit) or FSRU (Floating Storage Regasification Unit) that usually has an anchor project of a large CCGT (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) but has enough capacity to feed LNG into smaller Vessels that take the LNG to other Islands or isolated places that require power, and have a smaller regasification unit that supplies the gas to a generation power plant of smaller size with 2MW to 50MW, which are usually the size of these units. Another model is the ‘plug-and-play’ concept using ‘Iso LNG Containers’ that are put together with a Gas Engine Power Generation Container, and as the gas depletes, a milk-round of ISO LNG Containers is used.
We are in the process of deploying our first project using this model of business teaming up with local Partners and Technology Partners, and starting with a SPUG Model of circa 100MW+ in different locations with smallest Plant of 5MW and largest with 50MW.
The integration of this business model with other source of Renewable Energy Projects are in Resero Power's view the future for cleaner, low carbon and more efficient than other fossil fuels that are used, as gas brings the opportunity for the Transport, Mining, Agricultural Sectors amongst others, as separate Industrial Developments, which enhances the Community well being and creates employment with a secure power supply.
The production of electricity through photovoltaic panels takes place without the emission of any polluting substances, without recourse to combustible fossil fuels, and in the total absence of noise pollution.
Solar power has a unique potential to generate vast amounts of clean energy that doesn’t contribute to global warming. But without a cheap means to store this energy, solar power can’t replace fossil fuels on a large scale.
At Resero Power we work with PV-Solar Panels and other Technologies in this field as part of our combined Micro Grids Solutions and add modules when it is technically and economically feasible.
The integration of PV-Solar Panels with other Renewable Energy Assets is an advanced market. It is these concepts that we look at to bring the most efficient costs from small applications, i.e domestic use to large grid integration, depending on the applications and the project that is presented to us as an opportunity.
Resero Power Promoters have an in-depth knowledge of this sector, having participated and structured the development of 220MW Wind Farms distributed into 7 Parks in the North East of Brazil (Fortaleza), achieving and working closely in all documentation required for Funding, and achieving Financial Close with three institutions as the ‘Equity Providers’, being City Bank, BRAM (Black River Asset Management) and Liberty Mutual that took 49% of the Equity on the Projects.
The various stages for these projects are complex and now very competitive, so Resero Power will take an approach of participating in the development in Countries where the sector is still at the early stages, and economics give the correct returns to investors. Where wind speeds are outstanding and Government Frameworks for the sector are well defined and established on ‘feed in tariffs’ with the proper regulatory Contractual PPA (Power Purchase Agreements) in place.
A combination of Wind Farms with Storage-Batteries is another way that the Company can add significant value to a power project. Additionally the company is a leading player in the integration of storage with renewable generation (such as PV) integrated into a wider, demand side smart grid to provide an optimized supply & demand side asset.
'Community Energy Management' is ultimately the ‘sweet spot’ of our business model. Where renewable generation is integrated into a ‘Connected Community’.
Waste To Energy
Resero Power believes that Waste to Energy is the right answer to the problem of disposing of downstream waste, with separation of recyclables and the production of RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel), which can be turned into power by using different technologies that are available in the market, such as Pyrolysis or Gasification.
Thanks to the best technologies in the market, Waste to Energy plants make it possible to utilise that fraction of waste that would otherwise be disposed of, producing electrical and heat energy as a consequence. A tonne of waste used in this way provides the equivalent energy of around two barrels of oil.
We are working with developers and companies that have access to sites in the UK and are working at a stage that requires our expertise and knowhow in the structuring of the project and the development of a strong and bankable contracting chain.

According to Alternative Energy, the term "biomass" refers to organic matter that has stored energy through the process of photosynthesis. It exists in one form as plants and may be transferred through the food chain to animals' bodies and their wastes, all of which can be converted for everyday human use through processes such as combustion, which releases the carbon dioxide stored in the plant material. Many of the biomass fuels used today come in the form of wood products, dried vegetation, crop residues, and aquatic plants. Biomass has become one of the most commonly used renewable sources of energy in the last two decades.
